ICAS June 2016 E-Newsletter

Hello Friends, Supporters, and Leadership of ICAS,

ICAS Executive Board of Directors meets once a month for two hours on the 2nd weekend of each month. We have been doing a lot and developing processes and specifically identifying our mission and goals:

The Institute for Critical Animal Studies (ICAS), rooted in animal liberation and anarchism, is an intersectional transformative holistic theory-to-action activist led based organization to unapologetically examine, explain, be in solidarity with, and be part of radical and revolutionary actions, theories, groups and movements for total liberation and to dismantle all systems of domination and oppression, in hopes for a just, equitable, inclusive, and peaceful world.

ICAS is committed to modeling in our individual and collective work that scholars can be activists and activists can be scholars.

This month we with the direction of Joe Leeson-Schatz the Chair of the Intersectional Research Collaborative (IRC) is closing the two IRCs – Theory and Practice, to rather support the Publication Department with the Executive Director John Lupinacci to promote research collaborations such as special issues of journals and books in both of our book series.

We also changed the name of Membership to Annual Supporters. We changed the name to separate volunteers who have taken a leadership role in ICAS with supporters. Please continue to support us and donate to ICAS.

We are proud to say that JCAS, which has changed leadership from Interim Editor Sean Parson to Amber George. Amber will now be the Editor of the Journal for Critical Animal Studies. JCAS will be grounded in supporting the Animal Liberation Front, anarchism, activism, total liberation, grass-roots movements, and not publish work that is theory for theory sake or writing about social movements from those that are not activists and are detached.

Sean Parson is now the North American Director of the Institute for Critical Animal Studies who will first on his tasks help organize the 15th Annual North American Conference for Critical Animal Studies at Fort Lewis College, in the very beautiful mountains of Durango, Colorado where there is the Animas River and so many other natural sites.

Jorg Hartmann and Carlos Garcia both radical anarchist activists for total liberation are both the ICAS Europe Co-Directors, who are planning their annual conference.
